What the memo actually contains

How it works

  1. Conflict check, no charge Send the party names and the facility. I run the check the same day and confirm before any case facts are discussed.
  2. Engagement letter and invoice One page. Fixed-fee work is prepaid, so there is no retainer and no open-ended meter.
  3. Secure records upload You get an encrypted upload link. Records are never sent or received as ordinary mail or unencrypted attachments.
  4. Memo in 72 hours The clock starts when records and payment are both in. If I cannot meet the deadline I will tell you before I take the file, not after.

What it is not

The screen is non-testifying consulting work product. It is not an affidavit or certificate of merit, and it is not testimony. Where a matter needs a signed affidavit or a testifying expert, that is a separate engagement, and in some cases the right answer is that a different expert should sign. The screen is designed to be the fast, cheap filter that runs before any of that, so you know whether the file justifies the spend.

Nationwide. Non-testifying record review is not limited by state licensure, so I take files from counsel in any state. Where a matter later moves toward affidavit-signing or testimony, that state's expert-qualification rules apply at that stage and we address it then.

Start with the conflict check

Send the party names and the facility. I run the conflict check the same day at no charge, before any case facts change hands.
